Choose the Right Service

Every year, millions of us visit our GP with minor health problems that can be easily resolved without a doctor’s appointment. It is estimated that every year, 50 million visits to the GP are made for minor ailments such as coughs and colds, mild eczema, and athlete’s foot. Many health care problems do not need a doctor or nurse. Other professionals such as pharmacists, opticians and dentists may be better placed to help.

It is important that everyone uses their GP and local Accident and Emergency services wisely.

Non-urgent advice: How Pharmacies can help

Please help us to help you by managing minor illnesses at home – don’t forget your pharmacist can help with many minor problems. Patients can see the Pharmacist without a GP appointment, for common conditions such as earache, sore throat, or urinary tract infections.

The practice has been selected to train qualified young doctors in general practice; some of these doctors stay for 4 months, (foundation year 2, F2), and others for a year or more (Registrars ST1, ST2, ST3).
We hope you will feel able to assist in the training of these young doctors. Senior doctors in the practice supervise all their work.
As part of their training they are required to video a number of consultations and you may be asked by a patient co-ordinator whether you would like to take part. If you would prefer not to take part you are at liberty to decline.
We have close links with Alton Community Hospital (ACH) which offers Physiotherapy services, Hearing Aid Clinics, and a wide range of Outpatient Clinics with visiting consultants from Basingstoke and Winchester. X-ray facilities are available at ACH. If a doctor wants an emergency X-ray taken they will send the patient for X-ray. We have the PACS digital imagery system used by the hospital in the surgery so the doctor will get the result immediately often before the patient has had a chance to walk back to the surgery.
